Onkyo has announced the launch of two new 7.1-channel home cinema systems boasting THX certification and plenty of audio decoding goodness

The TX-SR706 offers 7 x 160W of power output, four HDMI ports with 1080p video upscaling and upconversion of standard definition content using the Faroudja DCDi Cinema system, plus THX Select2 Plus certified performance.

It can decode Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD, and features a music optimiser for artificially improving the quality of compressed MP3/AAC tracks. It also has Audyssey Dynamic EQ for maintaining consistent bass and sound quality at different volume levels.

The TX-SR806 is the 706’s slightly bigger brother, offering 7 x 180W of power output, an extra HDMI input (that’s five), and THX Ultra2 Plus certification.

It too upscales video, decodes audio, optimises music, and can be dynamic with EQ.

Available from the beginning of September, with the TX-SR706 going for £600, and the TX-SR806 for £800.
