The battery-powered Mini E – an electric vehicle cool enough to be seen driving by people you know

mini-e-electric-car.jpgFinally, an electric car that doesn’t resemble the sort of thing Noddy & Big Ears would drive around the surface of the Moon.

This is the Mini E, a li-ion-powered electric version of the Mini. It’s a rather severely limited edition production, with only 500 being made – and those have already been earmarked for delivery to the sort of companies that fancy having a few electric Minis on the books to make them look good.

The specs are great for a leccy car – 0-60 in 8.5 seconds, a top speed of 95mph and the equivalent power of 201 wild horses, plus it’s capable of doing 150 miles on only a 2.5 hour charge. There’s no back seat, mind – that space is full of the 5000 li-ion cells required to make the engine bits go round.

  • Its a pity they will be making so very few of these vehicles, will there be any left for us ordinary people who do believe in cutting our carbon footprint? I suspect not. Another question would be; Is BMW really serious about Green Issues or is this just another “flash in the pan”to make them look good in the eyes of the media.
