Try getting your head around Fujitsu's wraparound car camera
I had to look at this photo a few times before I understood it, but it seems like Fujitsu’s managed to come up with a camera that gives you a 360° field of vision – all around your car. That way there’s less chance of you knocking into that bollard, or running over your neighbour’s cat.
It’s based on the stitching together of digital images from four different cameras, though as you can see, the stitching’s not very good yet. Wouldn’t it be easier to use just one camera along with a massive fisheye lens on top of the car?
This is prototype tech still, and will be presented at the 15th World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems & ITS America’s 2008 Annual Meeting and Exposition, which will be taking place from November 16 to 20 in New York.
