Sky Songs launches today
Spotify has yet another new and powerful rival as Sky today launched its Sky Songs website.
Type in an artist or song name into Sky Songs impressive database of tracks and it’ll stream straight through your browser, or download them as MP3’s to take them on the go. It’s an easy site to navigate, showing Sky’s commitment to computer users of all abilities. Also, every Sky Broadband customer will receive a free one month long trial and a free album to download worth £6.49.
However, the Sky Songs catalogue features only 4 million tracks at the moment, compared to approximately 6 million tracks currently available on Spotify. And while Spotify offers free streaming to its users thanks to an ads-based service, Sky Songs will require a monthly subscription of £6.49.
At best Sky Songs, with the full might of Sky behind it, could prove to be a Spotify beater. At worst, at least it is an alternative to Spotify’s catalogue when searching for that elusive B-side.
