400 ft high "Digital Cloud" could display London 2012 Olympic highlights
London has the Millennium Dome, it’s got the London Eye; we may yet have to add the “Digital Cloud” to the capital’s list of crazy structures.
Planned as a new tourist attraction for the 2012 Olympics and being designed by MIT researchers, the structure would feature two 400ft towers connected by a series of huge plastic bubbles. From the promotional pictures we’ve seen, it looks like highlights of the games would then be projected onto the “cloud”. MIT have also said that the bubbles could act as a “barometer of the city’s interests and moods”, hinting perhaps at some involvement from the groups partners Google.
The towers would run purely on regenerative energy sources. However, powering a structure like this almost solely on solar power, in rainy London, seems just a tad ambitious.
