1 million Ovi Store downloads a day claim Nokia
While it hasn’t always been plain sailing Nokia’s Ovi Store, it looks like things are final looking up for the mobile marketplace. According to George Linardos, Nokia’s Vice President of Product/Media, the store is now generating roughly one million downloads every day.
“We’re doing just under one million downloads a day, and our download numbers are growing 100% month-on-month,” said Linardos, at an event in London today.
Not content with the healthy new figures, Nokia are looking to launch a revised, improved version of the store in the new year.
“All the while there’s been this new platform being built in the background, which we’ll be talking about in the next couple of months and launching in the Spring with what we’re calling 2.0,” explained Linardos. “It’s being built from scratch with a few legacy components, which will be phased out over the course of 2.1 and 2.2. So it’ll probably be about 75% from scratch, and three or four months after that it will be 100%.”
Speed, UI improvements and reliability are high on the Ovi Store’s 2.0 agenda.
