If you’re too impatient to wait for an official release of Android 2.1, XDA Developers and All Droid have been working on an Android update for the HTC Hero.
The Android 2.1 ROM is packing the Sense UI and is available here.
Make sure to back-up any of your files on the handset before you install the ROM, as there have been reports that this unofficial update is a little buggy.
