Apple iPad has 12 dedicated apps at launch – updated

Interesting little snippet buried in the iPad press release of a few minutes ago. Apparently the new iPad will launch with 12 new dedicated iPad apps. To clarify this doesn’t include third party apps. We don’t know how many third party apps will be available at launch. Some are outlined here.
There are a further 150,00 apps that have been developed for the iPhone which are compatible with the iPad.
Apple promises that ‘Developers are already creating exciting new apps designed for iPad that take advantage of its Multi-Touch interface, large screen and high-quality graphics.’

Wow. I just hope that iPad will be cooler and better than the iPhone. I hear news that the iPad is just an over-sized version of the iPhone! I really hope it’s not. About the apps, i Think it’s also great o develop apps that would just suit the iPad to maintain good competition against other brands.

The 12 apps are obviously APPLE apps, like mail, safari, contacts, etc.
The press release does not say whether there will be 3rd party iPad apps on the app store by April 3.
So until further notice, we don’t know when 3rd party apps will be available specific to iPad.
