Android 3.0 "Gingerbread" to launch in Q4 2010?

While the tech world waits with baited breath for news on Android 2.2 at Google‘s I/O conference, it seems plans are already well under way for version 3.0.

Head on over to the WebM media project page FAQ, unveiled by Google yesterday, which puts a date of Q4 2010 on the 3.0 release, and gives it the codename “Gingerbread”.

Here’s an excerpt from the FAQ:

When will other Google products support WebM and VP8?

WebM support in Android is expected in the Gingerbread release (currently planned for Q4, 2010). We expect many other Google products to adopt WebM and VP8 as they prioritize it with their other product requirements. Keep an eye on the WebM blog for announcements.

As you’d expect from a leak like this, there are no images available yet, nor any official confirmation. Still, Fro-Yo shmo-mo and all that…
