Sony have launched the RDH-SK8iP iPod dock, aiming it squarely at fashion conscious teens who love their music loud.

Codenamed the “SK8”, this isn’t an audiophiles kit, but rather a bass-belting bruiser. It will of course be a step up in quality from a tinny mobile phone, which, according to research findings a Sony rep made us privvy to, is now the average teenager’s main toy with which to consume music.

With the iPod or iPhone sitting on a dock at the front, the Sk8 comes with a remote and provides 75W RMS. It weighs roughly 8kg and measures 605 x 190 x 165mm. There is also an aux input for other audio sources if you don’t have an Apple device.

Perhaps the SK8’s main draw will be its customisable, detachable faceplate. Sony have teamed up with a printing team to provide RDH-SK8iP owners with a custom skin service. Head on over to sony.co.uk/skins and you can upload your favourite pics or designs to a template, which Sony will then print and send to you in the post for a small fee.

Pick this one up now for around £170. But warn the neighbours first.
