Toshiba launch AC100 Android smartbook
Toshiba have today launched their very first Android-powered smartbook. Running version 2.1 of the operating system and featuring a 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 250 mobile processor, the AC100 could finally be the machine that sees smartbooks reach their potential.
With a 10.1 inch LED backlit display at a resolution of 1024 x 600, it’s super thin at just 14mm at its thinnest point and 21mm at its thickest. Booting up from off in just a second, it also packs in 8GB of NAND flash memory and 512MB of DDR2 RAM.
Internet connectivity is covered by both Wi-Fi and an integrated 3G module, as well as having Bluetooth, HDMI-out and a 1.3 megapixel webcam.
The Nvidia mobile chip keeps the system quiet and relatively cool, as well as allowing the measurements to stay at a svelte 262 x 190 x 14/21mm and weigh just 870g. There will also be a cool location-aware feature that will see the smartbook boot up a desktop tailored to your current position; say, one for work and one for browsing the web in your living room.
Out in August, the AC100 is definitely one to watch.
