Spotify iPhone app gets multi-tasking update for iOS4 users
The Spotify iPhone app has had its iOS4 update approved by Apple. It brings with it the long awaited multi-tasking compatibility, as well as a handful of other improvements that music fans have been crying out for.
First up, app switching on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, 3G and iPod Touch devices with iOS4 now means that your Spotify library can play in the background while you browse the web or use other multi-tasking enabled apps. No more problems checking your mail and keeping the musical notes flowing simultaneously.
Other new additions are much needed headset remote controls, a screen locking function and a “Whats New?” tab, as well as the ability to share tracks and albums much like in the desktop version. There are also unconfirmed reports of a standby mode kicking in to save battery life when no tracks have played for over ten minutes, but with a catalogue like Spotify’s you’ll be unlikely to go 30 seconds without firing up another classic tune.
iTunes is looking more and more redundant in the wake of Spotify’s continued improvements. Apple better start thinking about getting that streaming-service out sharpish.

The multitasking is only available on iPhone 4, 3GS and the newer 32Gb & 64Gb iPod touches, not the 3G or the 8Gb touch.
