iPhone 4 boss parts ways with Apple
It looks as though the iPhone 4’s “Antennagate” PR disaster has claimed its first victim in the shape of Mark Papermaster, a senior executive at Apple responsible for overseeing the engineering of the iPhone and iPod.
It’s a shock departure for Papermaster, who has been with Apple only 2 years after 25 successful years at IBM prior to this appointment, working closely on their Power chips.
While it’s still uncertain whether Papermaster walked or was pushed, growing speculation suggests that a falling out occurred between him and Apple maestro Steve Jobs, likely in the wake of the iPhone 4 antenna issues.
We’ll have more details on this story as it becomes clearer, but for now all else that’s been revealed is that Bob Mansfield, senior vice-president of Macintosh hardware engineering, is set to fill Papermaster’s shoes.
