Texting record broken by Swype-using Brit
How quickly do you think you could text “the razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human”? Granted, it’s not the sort of thing you send to your mates every day, but if you can do it faster than 25.94 seconds, then you could be the proud bearer of the title of the world’s fastest texter.
That’s what Brit-based Melissa Thompson did using the Swype app on a Samsung Galaxy S smartphone. Swype lets a user drag a finger across consecutive letters, rather than lifting and tapping each character individually.
”It’s a real shock to find out that I’m the fastest texter in the world,” said Thompson. “But using Swype helped. Everyone should give it a go and see how easy it is.”
Quite the endorsement there.
Thompson’s turbo-texting knocks 9.6 seconds off the record, previously held by an American. The time has yet to be given the coveted Guinness World Records seal of approval however.

I hear everyone talking about Swype, which isn’t even out yet when I’ve been using SlideIT for a while now and LOVE it. I’ve used the Swype beta and I gotta say, SlideIT just works better. Its dictionary is better, it’s word prediction is better and it’s way of choosing alternate words is better. Instead of forcing you to choose from a popup menu, it makes its best guess then gives you an unobtrusive menu of alternate words to choose from in case it got it wrong. Please, try SlideIT, it’s a superior keyboad and it’s already available.
