How Google Instant might affect SEO
You probably already know loads about Google Instant, the new search engine facility which delivers results which change at the touch of a keystroke. How though might it affect SEO?
1 It will make the top five searches very important – it will be those searches that catch your eye. The importance of a top five placing on Google will become even more important. This will be even more important when the service reaches mobile phones laterv this year.
2 It will devalue second and third pages – I suspect that people won’t actually get that far with searches now. Rather they will just chnage what they are typing and get different first page results
3 It will deliver even more Google News traffic – Search for a product or a company and the top search is via Google News. This is the same as in previous searches, but I wonder if the speeded up search system will mean we are more likely to click on the first story that comes up. If it does, and I suspect it will, this is great news for publishers.
One very interesting question is how many people search using Google toolbars or using iGoogle. They obviously won’t be affected by Google Instant.

Well i don’t see that much different in seo since google instant launched…
This is really good information
Really Nice Post, Thank You Very Much!
This is truly great advice.
I used the source you attached to this article.
I love Google
Google is hard to understand.
I love Google but there is some thing I never will understand from Google. But that is what make Google becomes GOOGLE.
I think that for a long time now, 2nd and 3rd pages have been for the ‘delvers’. Google are talking about increasingly sophisticated search term strings being created by users and I think for those people that are not using Boolean strings….
If we have some other Search Engines, despite this, We can’t see better rank of our keyword without Google search engines. Therefore,it is really important for SEO.
This is really fantastic advice, thank you so much
Great insight Ashley. Time will tell..
I will agree with point #2, Google Instant is Google’s way of saying that pages that are not included in the First 10 of its listings are nothing but junk. Though quality searches will be automatically provided by Google Instant, there are instances wherein searches are not primarily focused in buying things online. How about people searching for tutorials on a specific activity? For sure, they want to keep their options open for the best written walkthrough out there. You should turn Google Instant off.
I don’t believe it will effect the little guys
No!! I don’t think so. On the contrary, it is gonna benefit the seo because certain special keywords are involved in this Google Instant.
This will certainly benefit large corps for sure. When i type “a”, amazon site comes first. This is what i call free advertising.
Some great points Ashley…it’s interesting to see that this innovation is, on the face of it, about saving individual users several seconds, when of course Google Toolbar users are saved that already by not having to ‘visit’ the site.
Re your other points, I think that for a long time now, 2nd and 3rd pages have been for the ‘delvers’. Google are talking about increasingly sophisticated search term strings being created by users and I think for those people that are not using Boolean strings (i.e. not something that they think about doing) they are probably settling for first page results anyway.
