As rescue operations get underway in earthquake-affected Christchurch, a simple yet effective app can help people in the search for their friends and family.

The Person Finder app is a very simple, but efficient tool, where people can log on and request information about someone. You can type in a name and run a search, and if the result comes back blank the app will ask if you want to create a missing persons report. If the name comes up, the app will list any information available.

People are also encouraged to list any information that they have, so others can see it.

The New Zealand city of Christchurch was hit by a 6.3 magnitude earthquake which has already led to several confirmed fatalities. People remain trapped under rubble as rescue operations continue.
