APP OF THE DAY: Sky News (iPad)
Sky News have just revealed their iPad app, a feature-rich news service that will put real-time news updates into the hands of tablet owners.
Built exclusively for iPad, the app has a dedicated editorial team, pushing breaking news to the app 24 hours a day.
What sets the Sky News iPad app apart from other news apps is its ability to pump live video news directly onto the tablet with full playback controls, as well as offering a regularly updated on-demand video library, image galleries and infographics, alongside more traditional written articles and commentary.
“We pride ourselves on being an innovative, brave and mould-breaking news service, and work hard to give our audiences access to news on their terms,” said John Ryley, Head of Sky News. “Having delivered content across digital, online and mobile, iPad was the next logical platform on which to break new ground. With more and more of our viewers embracing mobile devices to stay connected to the news, the launch of Sky News for iPad is one of the most important developments in Sky News’ history.
“We challenged ourselves by coming up with new ways to deliver news to our users, taking advantage of the unique features and functionality of iPad. We wanted to bring users more control and flexibility to how they view and interact with the news they want. The result is Sky News for iPad.”
Grab the app from Apples App Store by clicking here. It’s free for the time being, but will move to a paid-for model for non-Sky subscribers in the near future.
