High street chain Debenhams has launched a new app for Android handsets, offering shoppers a range of new features through their phones.

Debenham launched an app for the iPhone last year, but the Android app is the first time a retail app comes with a barcode scanner. This feature uses the camera on the phone to photograph the barcode on an item in the shop, and the app then uses the photo to check pricing and reviews.

The app also gives users special deals on their shopping, which they can get by scanning the QR codes displayed in the shop windows. There’s also the possibility to sort items into wish list, sizes, colours and so on. You can even share product info by email or on Facebook, or watch ‘Debenhams TV’ if you so wish. More practical uses includes finding your nearest store and checking opening times and whether items are in stock.

Free from Android Market.
