Parrot’s AR.Drones have consistently been a hit at recent CES shows, and 2012 is proving no different with the release of the AR.Drone 2.0.

Controlled by a smartphone or iPad tablet, the 4-propellored drone uses the AR FreeFlight 2.0 app to steer it through the skies, using either virtual joysticks or accelerometer tilt controls.

An augmented reality gaming mode pumps targets and obstacles onto the screen through the app, while the ability to fly to new heights of 50 metres (limited by the controller device’s Wi-Fi range) allows for greater scope when taking aerial pictures.

Due at some point in 2012, no pricing has been revealed yet.
