PS Vita tops Amazon charts ahead of launch

Sony’s latest, greatest handheld gaming hope, the PS Vita, is doing a roaring trade over at Amazon.

Not only has the 8GB PS Vita topped Amazon.co.uk’s bestseller chart on just pre-order sales, but PS Vita related software and peripherals also make up 70 per cent of the retailer’s top 20 video game pre-order charts.

“14 of the top 20 positions in our video games pre-order chart are held by the PlayStation Vita console, games and accessories, which clearly illustrates the level of excitement that we are seeing around the product,” said Liz Hosmer, manager of video games at Amazon.co.uk.

“The release of a console is always big news and the buzz created around the new technology and enhanced gameplay has ensured that the PlayStation Vita is a bestseller in our charts before it has even been released.”

So far so good then for the Vita’s UK launch! In an age when tablet and smartphone gaming is on the rise, many feared for the fortunes of Sony’s dedicated gaming hardware. If it keeps up this deserved momentum, Sony may have a real winner on their hands.
