iPad Mini to have 7-inch Sharp IGZO LCD Retina display?
Now that the WWDC 2012 dust has settled and a lucky few of us are kicking back with Retina-packing MacBooks, rumours of Apple’s other big whisper mongerer are popping up yet again. Yep, you guessed it; it’s Mini iPad time.
Following the unveiling of Google’s Nexus 7 tablet, all eyes are once again on Apple’s potentially miniaturized tablet. The latest rumours concern its display, now thought to be an IGZO LCD panel from Sharp.
Sharp has the ability to manufacture high-resolution 330ppi Retina Displays, meaning that they may squeeze the tech into a 7-inch slate.
With a display like that and internal quad-core hardware in-line with the current generation of tablets, you’d be looking at a device around the $250 to $300 mark.
We’re still not sure as to how much weight to give these Mini iPad rumours. On the one hand, the success of the Kindle Fire, and the buzz surrounding the Google Nexus 7, certainly suggests there is a market for 7-inch tablets. However, it’s also now looking a market well catered for by big name brands like Amazon and Google. Even if Apple did put out a 7-inch tablet, would there be room for it?
