Amazon take on Zynga with new social gaming studio
Amazon are to enter the social gaming market, an area dominated by Zynga and EA, with their new Amazon Game Studios venture.
The online retailer stated that the studio will be developing “innovative, fun and well-crafted games.”
“We know that many Amazon customers enjoy playing games — including free-to-play social games — and thanks to Amazon’s know-how, we believe we can deliver a great, accessible gaming experience that gamers and our customers can play at any time,” the company announced in a blog post.
The first game from the studio will be Living Classics. Revealed yesterday, it sees a family of cartoon foxes journey through pages from their favourite children’s literature books. You can check out the first trailer above.
You can try the game too on Facebook by clicking here.
Amazon’s game studio launch will be the last thing Zynga want to hear now. The social gaming company saw their stock value drop 40% in the hours that followed the release of their disappointing second quarter earnings results. Zynga blame changes introduced with the Facebook app centre, favouring newer games rather than established social titles, for their fall in fortunes.
