internet-white-spaces.jpgEver thought that the .co.uk web address was just three characters too long? Well so do Nominet, the company who controls domain names in the UK. They’re proposing that some companies be offered .uk domains instead, knocking off three keystrokes from their web addresses.

Can you imagine the time that will save?

Yeah, blink and you’ll miss it. But many companies are apparently so keen that Nominet will be charging a £15 premium on top of the usual £5 charge per year for a .co.uk domain.

The new addresses and premium price will also bring with them improved security options according to Nominet.

More info can be found on Nominet’s consultation page.

It’s been a busy year for web domains. This year has already seen .XXX porn domains get the greenlight, as well as personalised suffixes such as .wtf and .lol.
