iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 to land in March 2013?
Get an iPad Mini or a fourth-generation iPad for Christmas? Here’s some news you probably weren’t hoping to hear – next generation models of both Apple tablet sizes may well be landing in March 2013, just five short months after the last tablet range update.
Analyst Brian White of Topeka Capital Markets has claimed that Apple are now looking towards shifting the iPad line into a twice-yearly refresh cycle, with new iPad models landing in both the Spring and Winter seasons, kicking off with the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 in just two months time.
As for what these new models would look like, White was told that the iPad 5 would be thinner and lighter than the fourth generation model, while the iPad Mini would retain the current form factor with upgraded internal components, pointing towards a faster chip as the most likely improvement. White did not hint towards the Retina display making an appearance in the iPad Mini however.
White’s predictions stem from discussions with industry sources at this week’s CES conference in Las Vegas, but with his sources remaining unnamed, it may be worth taking these predictions with a pinch of salt.
But with the iPad Mini sorely missing the Retina display of its stablemates, and the 4th gen iPad launching without much fanfare, a quick launch of new re-designed products with a handful of headline grabbing features isn’t impossible.
