UPDATE:
HTC have confirmed the official specs of the HTC Desire 600 handset, differing slightly from those given below in the leaked information. Click here to see them. The original story follows in full.

It appears that HTC will be looking to bolster their entry-level smartphone offerings with two new phones according to a series of leaks online, with the company looking to replace the HTC Desire X entry-level model, pictured above.

The first of the new handsets is the HTC Desire 200, spotted under the ID 102e model number by Chinese site VR-Zone.

They state that the handset will sport a 3.5-inch screen, 1GHz processor, 512MB or RAM, 4GB of internal storage, a 5MP rear camera snapper and a 1400mAh battery. The ageing Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS appears to have been chosen over the newer Jelly Bean build however.

With the report stating that the handset is set for Asian markets only, it may however never reach UK stores.

More interesting is the Desire 600, spotted by GSMInsider.

It’s potentially sporting a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, with a 960 x 540 4-inch screen, making this more of a mid-range device. It’s said to be running Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2, with a European roll-out all but confirmed by HTC Europe benchmarks.

No official word from HTC on the pair yet, but given yesterday’s revealed crisis at the company following the HTC First’s failure, the company certainly would benefit from a low-end success at the moment.
