Assassin's Creed 4: Freedom Cry DLC now available – here's an awesome trailer
The first batch of downloadable content for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag has gone on sale on Xbox Live and PSN today – just in time for the Christmas break. Freedom Cry puts you in the shoes of Adewale, an ex-slave who, judging by the trailer, isn’t too pleased about that whole slavery thing.
The expansion is set 15 years after the events of AC4 main character Edward Kenway and judging by the trailer, appears to take some inspiration from Django Unchained. If you like justice being served in as brutal and violent a way as possible… it looks like it will be for you.
What I think is interesting about the trailer is that it further illustrates Ubisoft’s perhaps happy problem with the AC series: With Black Flag they’ve picked such a rich, interesting and notorious historical period that it’s tempting just to get lost in the history – with the Assassin vs Templar mythos getting crowded out by all of the interesting pirate stuff.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, this is why the company have been surveying players on a game about pirates outside of the AC series – given the popularity of the sailing mechanics. My money is on them going down the Modern Warfare route – so don’t be surprised if we get both “Assassin’s Creed 5” AND “Black Flag II” as separate games.
But speculation aside, the new DLC is out today – go set it free!
