Radio downloads coming to BBC iPlayer
Good news for anyone stuck for something to listen to on the bus – soon you’ll be able to download radio programmes from the iPlayer to listen to without killing your phone’s data allowance.
The development was picked up by Digital Spy, who spotted a Tweet from the iPlayer Radio team confirming it. Apparently the BBC Trust had taken a day off from issuing another tedious report that unnecessarily beats the BBC up to instead greenlight the plans.
.@cljfrancis @bbcinternetblog @BBCiPlayer The BBC Trust approved proposals to offer BBC radio content for download. Coming later this year.

The functionality has been available for TV shows since the iPlayer was first launched as a download-only service – so its good to see radio finally catching. The reason for the delay is likely to be complex rights issues around music licensing.
We don’t have a date yet for when the update will be launched, but will keep you posted.
