Tony Hawk's Skateboarding coming to iOS and Android with "Shred Session"
Activision have announced plans to bring the Tony Hawk’s Skateboarding series to mobile this summer – with Tony Hawk’s Shred Session set to his iOS and Android.
The game appears to be a bit of a departure from the tradition Tony Hawk formula – in the new title, gamers will use the touchscreen to swipe and tap to perform tricks, having to “level up” to unlock more complex tricks. I’m not a betting man, but I’d wager that if you’re too lazy to level up, there will helpfully be some sort of micropayment available to help you advance more quickly.
Shred Session comes with a bunch of new maps – with the press release highlighting Santa Monica and London being available to skate in (the latter, as you can see in the screenshot, has The Shard in the background). Apparently there will be two game modes: the classic objective modes which sees the player scoring big or collecting various tokens, and a new survival mode, in which the player must pull off tricks and combos for as long as possible.
In a made-up quote for the press release, Tony himself is quoted as saying “I’m stoked that Activision shares my vision for an original skateboarding game on mobile” – presumably almost as stoked as he is to have found a way to monetise his brand in a shifting gaming environment.
The game is apparently due some time this summer. The campaign to get The Suicide Machines back on the soundtrack starts here.
