Sonos adds support for Soundcloud
Sonos has announced the addition of Soundcloud as a supported service on its systems – joining the likes of Spotify, Google Play Music and Deezer.
Sonos’s range of speaker systems are at the top end of the market – offering a wifi home-streaming music system capable of playing music in different rooms of your house controlled by an app on your computer or mobile device. What’s really clever about Sonos is that it maintains the link with these services independent of any one device, meaning that you can switch off your laptop and continue to skank along in the kitchen. Umm, not that your author does this.
The addition of Soundcloud plugs one of the largest gaps in support. The overwhelming majority of services are supported. Soundcloud itself is probably the closest thing we have to an audio version of YouTube, with its competitors not even coming close in terms of both range of content and user experience. The inclusion is especially good news for fans of podcasts.
At the moment, Soundcloud support is only in beta, though Sonos users who wish to try can opt into the beta programme in settings, and set it up on their system.
