Europe launches two navigation satellites into the wrong place

Embarrassing news for European scientists as it has emerged that two satellites that form part of Europe’s new “Galileo” navigation system have been put in the wrong place. Whoops.
According to Sky News the satellites were launched on Friday – with the plan being to join the network of other satellites that will eventually create a competitor to America’s GPS system. Unfortunately – the two have ended up the wrong place, and apparently it won’t be possible to push them into the right place. If only there was, say, some sort of navigation system that could help them do it…
The Galileo system was due to come online some time before 2020 at a cost of £7bn – though presumably those estimates will be revised now.
