Batman: Arkham Knight coming June next year
Rocksteady games has announced that the next major Batman game, Arkham Knight, will be hitting shelves on 2nd June 2015. This is around six months later than we hoped to be playing it.
As we’ve known for some time, the game is experiencing delays in development – and Rocksteady announced in June that it was pushing it back. The thinking behind the delay is that not only do they want to produce a good game, but also they really don’t want to balls it up: whilst the first two games in the Arkham series (Arkham Asylum and Arkham City) received wide praise, the third, Arkham Origins was widely criticised for being rubbish. (Perhaps not coincidentally, it wasn’t developed by Rocksteady but by WB Games). Another dud could kill the lucrative series dead.
What’s particularly interesting is that whilst the game will be coming to PS4 and Xbox One in the west, Ubergizmo has picked up some chatter that the game may be a PS4 exclusive in Japan. Whilst this is currently unconfirmed, it would be interesting to see if such a move was motivated by Sony buying the exclusive rights for at least a timed period (like Microsoft has done with the new Tomb Raider), or whether it is simply one of economics: The Xbox One isn’t expected to sell well in Japan due to Sony’s domestic dominance and a late release.
We’ll keep you posted if the Bat-Time or Bat-Channel changes.
