Xbox One Japan launch is a massive flop
On September 4th the Xbox One finally launched in Japan… not that the people there seemed to notice. The console – which was debuting almost a year after its US and European launch – has according to Japanese mag Famitsu (by way of Bright Side Of News) sold only 23,562 units since.
By comparison, the PS4 shifted around 370,000 units in its launch weeks.
Worse still, these numbers are even poor in comparison to the launch of the Xbox 360 in Japan – which in 2005 sold more than 60,000 units. The 360 then went on to be out-performed by the PS3 (which is, of course, made by Japanese company Sony).
Apparently the most popular game at launch was Titanfall, shifting 22,416 units – with Kinect Sports Rivals selling 14,191.
It’ll be interesting to see if Microsoft can turn things around – though signs are not good as apparently Arkham Knight has been pulled from release on XBO in Japan already.
