Tetris pulled from Nintendo e-shop
Few titles are so closely linked with a console than Tetris is with Nintendo’s Game Boy – it was the game that proved handheld gaming could work. So it’s a shame to see that the 1989 original will no longer be available on 3DS via the Nintendo e-shop.
According to The Telegraph, the reason is to do with licensing. Though iconic, Nintendo doesn’t own the license to Tetris – Ubisoft does – so the speculation is that Nintendo’s current deal with the company ends on the 1st January, meaning that it can no longer offer the title for download.
The good news for existing owners though is that the game should continue to work if you’ve already bought and downloaded it. For the rest of us though, it looks like if we want to play Tetris we should ready our U-Play passports and expect micro-payments to get those long 1×4 blocks that you always need.
