Apple patents an iPhone thumbstick

Could the iPhone 6S or iPhone 7 be built for gaming? That isn’t such an insane possibility if Apple’s latest patent is anything to go by.
Patently Apple has unearthed a patent for a replacement to the iPhone’s home button, which will pop out of the frame if the phone when pressed in – creating a thumbstick not unlike you find on the PS4 or Xbox One controllers. Because it would pop out, when you’re not gaming the stick can be pressed in and your phone can retain its slick looks.
This would solve the problem currently faced by mobile gaming – that on-screen controls are basically crap for gaming.
It is worth remembering too that patents don’t alway turn into real products – but here’s hoping this one does.
