BT Sport and Sky 4K battle pushes Sky’s new box release forward
BT’s posturing over 4K football broadcasting is forcing Sky to speed up the release of its new set-top-box, according to reports.
According to The Telegraph, Sky is desperate to maintain its position amongst early adopters, so even though 4K penetration is still really low, it is planning to launch its new box, which will be capable of receiving 4K broadcasts, this year rather than next.
BT meanwhile is apparently pressing ahead with its own 4K plans – with the intention to launch a 4K service on BT Sport as early as Spring.
Further details on the Sky box are not yet known, but it is expected that the box will catch up with the sorts of features we’ve seen in rivals – such as multi-screen viewing via streaming around the home, and cloud storage for recorded programmes.
We’ll let you know when we hear more, from either company.
