Dixons Carphone is to launch a mobile network
Dixons Carphone – the company that was formed by the merger of Dixons (Currys/PC World) and Carphone Warehouse has announced its intentions to start its own mobile phone network.
The new network will be a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), leasing space from the Three network. Dixons claims that the new network will “bring innovative and highly personalised connectivity options for customers to enjoy” – whatever that means.
Graham Stapleton, CEO of Carphone Warehouse UK & Ireland says: “The announcement of our new network supports our strategic vision to continue to offer customers the widest range of connections, for when they are at home or on-the-go.”
Lynda Burton, Director of Wholesale at Three, said: “This is our biggest new customer to date and a great opportunity to be the MVNO partner of a large scale brand with real mobile expertise and insight. Our network capability, recognised as best for smartphone customer satisfaction and reliability, is a great platform and we look forward to supporting the UK’s biggest mobile specialist’s MVNO success.”
Unfortunately, neither of the people quoted above then went on to explain why.
