MWC 2015 rumours: HTC One M9, Samsung Galaxy S6 and more
The annual Mobile World Congress in Barcelona is considered by many to be the biggest event in the mobile world – it is, after all, where many of this year’s smartphones and tablets will be launched.
MWC 2015 is expected to be the usual big affair, and there are plenty of rumours about what might be shown off.
According to TechRadar, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9 are pretty much guaranteed to make an appearance in Barcelona next week.
The site reports that HTC has sent out invites to a special event it’s holding on March 1 in Barcelona, with the headline “utopia in progress”.
“We expect the Taiwanese firm to launch its next generation flagship smartphone at this event, currently dubbed the HTC One (M9) surprisingly enough, though codenamed the HTC Hima,” it says.
Meanwhile, the site Know Your Mobile says it has the full specs for the HTC One M9 – which “include a 2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage plus microSD expansion”.
Digital Spy says that it’s no secret that Samsung will be announcing the Galaxy S6 in Barcelona this year.
“The most recent rumour is that the phone will include an improved battery life, impressive 20-megapixel camera, quad HD screen, and finally, a feature which will make many Galaxy users happy – premium metal casing,” it says.
And speaking of the S6, The Verge says that Samsung has been building up the hype for the new handset by poking fun at it, with a series of spoof concept designs.
Sony is expected to announce, but probably not launch, the Xperia Z4 – which is rumoured to be featured heavily in the next James Bond movie, Spectre – according to FirstPost.
“The Xperia Z4 renders showed a change in the design philosophy, going with a flatter approach, and a mirrored back and front design along with bevelled edges,” it says.
PC Advisor says that while LG is unlikely to unveil the G4 at MWC, we are likely to see the company announce other smartphones and tablets such as new L-series devices and possibly even a replacement for the LG G Pad 8.3.
“Microsoft has kept its lips well sealed ahead of MWC,” reports Stuff. “Realistically, we’re probably going to see the announcement of the previously leaked Lumia 1330, which is a mid-range 5.7in device with a 720p display and dual-core innards. Nothing to get our hearts racing then, but we could always be in for a surprise. Fingers crossed, we’ll get one.”
And speaking of Microsoft, UberGizmo says that the company is rumoured to be showing off four new Lumia handsets in Barcelona.
“RM-1031 is the first rumored device with a 4-inch 480×800 pixel resolution display, presumably a low-end handset, with RM-1072 said to be a mid-range offering touting a 5.7-inch 720p display,” it says.
“The third device is said to be the RM-1072 with a 5-inch 720p display. Last but not the least RM-1109 and RM-1113 are also expected at MWC 2015, both are likely different variants of the same handset.”
Only a few days to wait to see which rumours turn out to be true.
