Is a new Apple TV coming in June?
Rumours suggest that Apple will finally be announcing a new Apple TV at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June.
According to Buzzfeed, the company will be launching a new set top box that will support both Siri voice controls and a long overdue app store for the platform.
Its about time too – the last time Apple TV got new hardware was in 2012, so we can expect any update to be significant. The suggestion is that the new box will have much more storage space, and run the A8 chip found in the latest iPhones.
The update will be timely too, as the Apple TV would make the perfect centrepiece for the company’s “internet of things” strategy – bringing together a central point where all “HomeKit” compatible devices (thermostats, lights, etc) can be controlled from.
There’s no more details at the moment, but it’ll be interesting to see if Apple goes down the gaming route like Amazon and Google have too, with their respective set top boxes.
