Is Google planning to bring an Android Wear app to iPhone?
An intriguing rumour this morning courtesy of, umm, MacRumours, which reports that Google could be planning to bring an Android Wear app to iPhone. This could mean that Android Wear devices would be compatible with iPhone – not just Android.
Such a move would be a Big Deal for iPhone users, as it would mean many more smartwatches are suddenly compatible with their phone – though unless Apple gets more generous with the amount of system access it grants apps, chances are that functionality would be more limited than using an Android Wear device with an Android phone.
Strategically it’d be a big move for Google too – whilst it could tempt iPhone users into Google’s domain, it could also give Android Wear users less of an incentive to stick with Google’s operating system next time they upgrade.
Interestingly, the rumour comes only days after we saw an unofficial hack enabling Android Wear use.
We’ll keep you posted.
