Chrome for Android to support notifications from websites
Google has announced details on what we can expect in version 42 (!) of its Chrome web browser for Android.
Announced in a blog post, the biggest new addition appears to be notifications from websites using an emerging notification standard. What this means is that you could soon be receiving notifications from, say, eBay, without having to have the eBay app installed. Pretty clever, right?
Google says some of the first websites to support this new standard will be Beyond the Rack, eBay, Facebook, FanSided, Pinterest, Product Hunt, and VICE News. Roost and Mobify.
Additionally, there will soon be the ability to add website shortcuts to your homescreen in one click. Google mentions that it has also recently added the ability for websites to access your phone’s camera – so it’ll be interesting to see what web apps take advantage.
