Facebook Messenger launches on desktop

This was unexpected. Facebook has snapped up the domain name messenger.com and launched a full-size version of its Facebook Messenger app for web browsers.
The new website basically resembles the tablet app, and does much the same – simply providing a larger window to chat in, rather than force users to use the tiny ones on the main Facebook website.
We’re just hoping this leads to Facebook spinning out other parts of its product into separate services that can be hidden away, like its “endless tedious photos of your friends’ kids” functionality.
