Chinese firm Xiaomi has announced the UK arrival of its first 5G smartphone, Mi MIX 3 5G. Launching via Vodafone UK, the 6+128 GB variant is available in Onyx Black, becoming one of the first 5G smartphones in the UK. The price will be announced by Vodafone very soon.

Since the launch of Mi MIX 3 5G during MWC earlier this year, Xiaomi has been working with key partners across the globe with a single goal, to accelerate the mass availability of its 5G-compatible flagship smartphone.

Mi MIX 3 5G is powered by the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 855 Mobile Platform with the Snapdragon X50 5G Modem and Qualcomm Technologies’ RF front-end solutions, enabling lightning-speed multi-gigabit downloads.

Enrico Salvatori, senior vice president and president of Qualcomm Europe/MEA, QUALCOMM Europe, Inc. explained:

“After years inventing and developing the technologies that make 5G a reality today, we are proud to support Xiaomi in launching Mi MIX 3 5G, one of the first 5G commercial devices to reach Europe.”

Mi MIX 3 5G also features a Full Screen Display, enabled by its sliding design and front-facing camera. Said Ou Wen, Head of Western Europe of Xiaomi:

“We are thrilled to bring Mi MIX 3 5G to UK customers. We believe the strong features and competitive pricing of our 5G smartphones will drive the 5G revolution, allowing users to enjoy a better, more connected, mobile experience through high speed and low latency.”

“As the 5G era arrives, working alongside our many network carrier partners worldwide, Xiaomi will continue to make the latest innovations and technology accessible to all.”

Xiaomi began working on the search for 5G solutions in May 2016, when it established a research team to deepen the standards of the fifth generation of mobile networks.

It participated in the tests of 5G organised by China Mobile, successfully testing the connection of the N78 signal in September 2018 and completing the mmWave signal test (millimeter wave) one month later.

Xiaomi has signed a number of 5G agreement with service providers from all over the world, such as 3, Sunrise, TIM/Vodafone, among others.

Vodafone UK is also stocking the Mi 9 which features an AI triple camera, class-leading 20 W wireless charging, and a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 855 chipset.
