Could empty driveways drive EV revolution?
Empty driveways are at the forefront of increasing the number of electric vehicle (EV) charge point spaces in the UK, at least according to the latest research by online parking portal YourParkingSpace.co.uk
Its survey reveals that homeowners with an empty driveway and EV charge point, who rent them to motorists who pay to ‘park and charge’ their cars, are now making a huge difference to the available stock of EV charge points in the UK.
Its figures reveal that it currently has 3,775 private spaces where motorists can park their EVs and top them up at the same time at 1,200 private locations across the UK, and it is growing fast.
- Plugged-in…rapidly increasing number of homeowners with EV charge points renting them out as parking spaces
- Driveways with an EV charge point earn 12 per cent more income on average than surrounding spaces
- Number of private locations listed with EV charge points expected to double by end of 2020 as homeowners make a huge difference to the available stock of EV charge points
Such is the growth of additional locations now available to rent and park with YourParkingSpace.co.uk that they now make up more than 1-in-10 charging locations in the UK which figures from Zap-Map show at 10,975.
And on average, each driveway owner with an EV charge point makes 12 per cent more income than surrounding spaces with YourParkingSpace.co.uk as they are able to charge a higher tariff whilst being more attractive to EV drivers.
Harrison Woods, managing director at YourParkingSpace.co.uk, said: “We’ve seen a rapid increase in homeowners with electric vehicle charge points registering their driveways to rent as they recognise the money-making opportunities they provide.
“As a result, we expect to double the number of private locations to 2,500 by the end of 2020.
“It’s also an attractive option for electric vehicle drivers to park their cars in pre-booked driveways as they are conveniently located and often cheaper than traditional car parks, while topping up on juice ready for their next journey.”
