The world’s ultimate car has been unveiled – and it’s an environmentally-friendly family estate that combines British beauty with German brawn.

A survey of 2,000 adults revealed the front of the car should resemble the striking Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, pictured above, a Midlands-built sports car with a top speed of 211mph. But the rear would be from an Audi RS6 Avant, the ultra-desirable German estate.

However, while these two cars are notorious for their loud exhausts and big petrol engines, the dream car, ideally in black, would be a quiet plug-in hybrid which can be driven through London without having to pay the Congestion Charge.

Other features would be 18-inch, six-spoke alloy wheels and a panoramic roof – and like the Audi it would have four doors rather than the Aston’s two.

BBC Studios commissioned the research ahead of the launch of its Top Gear Motors, Mischief & Mayhem DVD, to find out what the public would look for if they were creating their personal dream car.

While the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera had the most desirable front, respondents also liked the Range Rover Velar, Ferrari Roma, Jaguar F-Type, Bugatti Chiron and Volkswagen ID.3.

In typical Top Gear fashion, there won’t be a caravan in sight, with the ultimate car NOT fitted with a tow bar.

And despite the choice of it being any brand in the world, be it Ferrari, Rolls-Royce or Lamborghini, the Brits surveyed by OnePoll want the iconic Aston Martin badge on the bonnet.

The Top Gear Motors, Mischief & Mayhem DVD is the first release to feature the current presenting line-up: Freddie Flintoff, Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris.

To celebrate the eccentric nature of Brits’ dream car, BBC Studios commissioned Top Gear magazine illustrator Chris Rathbone to put the design on paper.

Top Gear host Chris Harris, said: “Aston DBS meets Audi RS6 all garnished with some Porsche 993 GT2 bolt on arches – it’s my perfect car.”

The DVD re-lives some of the three stars’ most thrilling moments, as they tackle a house-high Wall of Death in their insurance write-offs, while Freddie bungee-jumps off a massive dam in an old Rover Metro.

It also features Top Gear’s epic race between a McLaren Speedtail and fighter jet and the touching tribute to the late rally legend Colin McRae.
