Acer shows off new 10.1-inch Aspire One netbook
What a difference an inch makes — or 1.2 to be more precise. It’s highly likely that Acer will phase out its 8.9-inch Aspire One in favour of the new 10.1-inch model just announced.
Weighing in at just over a kilo, the machine features a LED-backlit WSVGA display offering a 1,024 x 600 resolution, choice of Atom processors (945GSE Express or 82801GBM), up to 2GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive, card reader, webcam and Wi-Fi…
Knockoff of iWork '09 contains Mac-unfriendly Trojan Horse
There’s a new Trojan Horse for Mac in town and it’s riding around in pirate copies of iWork ’09.
OSX.Trojan.iServices.A secretes itself in otherwise fully-functioning copies of Apple’s latest office software. It installs itself in a startup directory and gives itself full root privileges (in other words, it’s God to your Mac).
Security firm Intego is warning anyone who has downloaded installer software from filesharing/Torrent sites that they could now be infected. Intego’s latest updates for VirusBarrier X4 and X5 will now protect against and disinfect the virus…
Tech Trumpet: Mac25
Welcome to Tech Trumpet, where I attempt to make vaguely musical (and festive) sounds using a variety of gadgets and computers.
This week, by way of a very understated celebration of the Apple Macintosh’s 25th birthday on Saturday (today is when the iconic “1984” SuperBowl ad was shown), I’ve composed a short piece based on Mac System 7 operating system sounds…

The watch combines a raised convex bubble lens with precision-engineered optical technology which diffuses the LEDs for a bright, magnified lighting effect. At least, that’s what TokyoFlash says…
StopThief! Protect your smartphone if it's stolen
With a mobile phone stolen every twelve seconds in the UK (presumably not the same mobile phone), there’s every need for services that can stop handsets being used if they go astray.
StopThief is a new application from mobile security firm UMU that will block the use of a smartphone if it falls into the wrong hands…

Hold onto your old Polaroid camera: film's coming back
Forget signing a Facebook petition to bring back the Cadbury’s Wispa, which we all knew was a massive marketing stunt anyway. Make way for some real fans… those who loved the old Polaroid cameras so much that they decided to buy the factory and equipment with the aim of producing authentic film for the iconic cameras.
Though “The Impossible Project” — a group of Netherlanders — aims to “develop a new product with new characteristics, consisting of new optimised components, produced with a streamlined modern setup” the group will also be bringing back “analog INTEGRAL FILM for vintage Polaroid cameras” next year…
