Take amazing macro photos like this dew-soaked bee for £931 using a Nikon D200
No, this blog isn’t turning into Flickr, don’t worry! I spotted this photo and wondered what camera photographer Martin Amm used for this amazing macro. In case you’re wondering too, it’s a Nikon D200, using a Schneider-Kreuznach 50 mm-f/2.8 lens.
If you’d like to attempt a similar photo, the body will cost you £798, with the lens just £133. Of course, it’s not just the equipment you use, it’s also the skills of the photographer which result in a photo like this. Marvellous…
Kevin Rose claims Apple will price the 3G iPhone at $200, or £100
Kevin Rose, iPhone evangelist (pictured, with his cracked handset), has predicted yet another iPhone-shaped rumour. When he last quoted his ‘sources’ he speculated about the addition of a second camera for video-calling, but now he is dead sure Apple will debut a low-end model for $200, or £100.
Sure to throw salt into the open wound of all first-gen iPhone owners, if Apple were to release a low-end version of the iPhone, or just price the new 3G model at $200, it would result in fewer sales of the iPod Touch, as customers would deem the iPhone a better choice…
Is this a leaked photo of the touch-screen BlackBerry Thunder? Erm…
The internet saw a fan’s mock-up of the new touch-screen BlackBerry Thunder only a few weeks ago, but already we have the first leaked photo rumoured to be ‘the real deal’.
Retailer Horizon Wireless is apparently taking pre-orders for the Thunder, with this photo accompanying the sale-page which looks like it’s received a heavy-hand of the ol’ blur function in Photoshop.
If you squint your eyes hard enough, you can just about make out…it’s black. Yep, that’s it for now. Major colour leak! Major colour leak!…
Prince covers Radiohead's 'Creep', bans videos being uploaded to YouTube.
Prince, he who took on The Pirate Bay and YouTube last year, has once again waved his anti-piracy colours in the air, by ordering the take-down of videos on YouTube over the weekend of him singing ‘Creep’.
That’s ‘Creep’, made famous by Radiohead. Who still own the copyright of the hit song. Thom Yorke isn’t too bothered by Prince covering their song, describing it as “hilarious”, but is disappointed Prince’s record label NPG has taken the videos down, saying “surely we should block…well, tell him to unlock it. It’s our…song”.
Perhaps Prince was…
Shiny Video Review: Fujifilm J50 digital camera
Fujifilm’s J50 digital camera has just been released, after first being spotted a couple of months ago. Measuring 23mm thick, it has a 5x optical zoom and 8.2-megapixels, plus 15 pre-programmed shooting modes. If you fancy one after Zara’s review above, pick one up for £97 from PC World…
HP employee receives MacBook Air for birthday, cuts birthday cake with it
The MacBook Air has many uses, however using it to cut a birthday cake? Never thought of that one!
A CTO over at HP received a nasty birthday present in the form of an Air, so what does he do? Tests just how razor-sharp the laptop is, on his chocolate cake. “It’s so damn sharp, it did a fine job”, the birthday boy Rahul Sood claimed. There you have it – a glowing recommendation for the MacBook Air, from an HP employee…
Apple's flagship NYC store shuts last night, with iPhone commercial being filmed?
I saw on Boy Genius Report earlier that they’d received an email from an Apple employee/tipster alerting them that the 5th Avenue ‘glass cube’ NYC store would be shutting for several hours yesterday, as they were stocking the shelves with 3G iPhones.
Now, like Boy Genius, I didn’t pay too much attention to the rumour, until I saw Pop17’s Sarah Austin tweet that people were filming down at the store. After a little investigating, it appears they were indeed shooting a commercial at the flagship store, around midnight East Coast time. Loose-lipped employees were apparently telling passerbys that they were shooting an advert, hence the store closure. Very…
Google changes its favicon from uppercase white 'G' to lowercase purple 'G' – thoughts?
Soooo…has anyone noticed Google is wearing some new clothes today? That’s right, they’ve changed their favicon, that little ‘G’ logo which appears on tabs and at the beginning of the URL in the address bar.
The change happened earlier today, however I haven’t seen many people commenting on it – what do you think about the change from the big, official ‘G’, to the more fluid, purple lowercase ‘g’? Does it suit Google’s image more?
I have to say, I don’t mind it, although it’s quite annoying when you’re scanning your 17-odd open tabs, and can’t find the one open…
Nokia's N96 mobile will be released July 31st, for £599 SIM-free, claims Play.com
The security surrounding the launch of the N96 hasn’t exactly been watertight, first with rumours pointing at an August release date from none other than the Carphone Warehouse, and now thanks to Play.com, we’ve learned it will be a day sooner than expected – July 31st.
The online retailer has also revealed the SIM-free price of the mega-phone, which is a rather high £599. That’s $1,200 for the US market! Now, I’m sure most people are sensible enough to get the phone for ‘free’ on a 12-18 month contract with a network, but there’s sure to be one or two morons out there who can’t wait for the Nokia Touch Tube, which will be out later this year….
Shiny Video Review: Creative Vado camcorder
Joining the battle between Disgo and Flip, Creative has launched the Vado camcorder, which will set you back £79.99 for…well, what is definitely a budget camcorder which takes video in a 640 x 480 resolution and is available in silver or hot pink from next month at PC World…
