Low-cost PC popularity forces Microsoft to revise its plans for Windows XP again
At the ongoing Computex tech show in Taipei, Microsoft has announced its decision to further extend the life of the Windows XP operating system for new low-cost desktop PCs. PC manufacturers will be allowed to keep selling XP – Home, not Professional – until 2010.

Google Earth brings 3D mapping to browsers
Google has just announced the release of the Google Earth API and browser plug-in. Essentially it’s offering the same functionality as Google Maps, but with the added excitement of being 3D. It hasn’t exactly led to a huge graphical improvement yet though.
Facebook turns open-source in defence against MySpace
Facebook has confirmed that it is preparing to open up its platform to make life easier on third-party developers creating applications. Its announcement follows a flood of similar ones from other companies, including rival MySpace, which joined the Google-founded OpenSocial open source standards initiative.
