Manhunt 2 wins appeal for UK release
Following a prolonged battle with the BBFC, Rockstar’s controversial Wii, PS2 and PSP title, Manhunt 2 has been granted a release by the Video Appeals Committee. It is expected to go on sale in the UK later this year.
Seattle Spam King faces 26 year sentence
Spam… annoying isn’t it? Not quite as annoying as spending 26 years in the slammer though I’ll bet. That’s what Seattle man Robert Soloway, 28, faces after pleading guilty to electronic mail fraud, ordinary mail fraud, and not filing a tax return three years ago. The latter part doesn’t seem so exciting but this was believed to be when Soloway made over $300,000 from his nefarious internet practices.
Korg DS-10 synth for Nintendo DS – spark your own '80s electro pop revival
Classic 80s synthesizer, the Korg MS-10, is currently being recreated inside the diminutive Nintendo DS handheld console. Far from being some cheap hack ported on to a SD card and slapped into a dodgy machine, this is fully functioning, absolutely 100% official synth, drum machine and sequencer. It’s called the Korg DS-10 – can you see what they’ve done there?
*Sigh* Apple is getting sued again. This time it's over iTunes.
It’s Thursday right? Must be time for Apple to get sued again. Who’s turn is it now? It’s… ZapMedia. Christ – have we reached the ‘Z’s already? ZapMedia is alleging that iPods and iTunes are illegally using its patented method of distributing digital media over the internet.
How much does it cost to lose a format war? One billion dollars (cue maniacal chuckles)
Now that the dramatic climax to the HD format war is past, Toshiba is starting to pick up the pieces. Naturally, it’s expected to post some big losses after HD DVD’s failed campaign against Blu-ray and the Nikkei Business Daily reckons it can put a figure on just how much it all comes too. Even more conveniently, it rounds out to make a good headline too, to the tune of $1 billion – or 500 million quid if you prefer.
Microsoft unveils Vista-inspired Wireless Laser Desktop 7000
Clearly the chaps at Microsoft must be using a different version of Vista to me, because right now the only keyboard design Vista is inspiring me to make is one that I can twat them over the head with. New Windows meant new law suits fancy functions which I’ll begrudgingly admit that while being a massive drain on the system do look rather snazzy.
Naturally you’ll want a keyboard and mouse that complement this sleek design and so Microsoft is providing the goods with the latest Wireless Laser Desktop 7000. The keyboard part is an ultrathin Comfort Curve design (read: the keys are aligned in a sort of bend). It’s a 2.4GHz wireless model and comes with the already available 7000 wireless rechargeable mouse.
Husqvarna Automower Solar Hybrid trims your lawn, protects the environment, lulls humanity into false sense of security
Thank god I don’t have a lawn. I already struggle to keep up with housework, general home maintenance, paying the stair cleaners, personal hygiene, etc. If there was ‘grass’ to be tended to on my days off, it might just push me over the edge. Unless I had a Husqvarna Automower that is.
Art Lebedev now working on wireless Optimus Mini 3.0
If it wasn’t for the fact that the ideas were so damn cool, Art Lebedev would be at risk of becoming a laughing stock for its utter failure to deliver the one product (announced in 2005) that started all its hype. There is a bit of a consolation prize in the form of the Optimus mini three – a three buttoned alternative to the proper OLED enabled keyboard we were hoping for – and the Russian designers are now planning to evolve it a bit further by taking it wireless.
MSI Wind challenges Asus Eee PC – bigger screen, longer battery life, lower price
We’re all big fans of those little Asus Eee PCs here at Tech Digest, but that doesn’t mean that our allegiance could’nt change as soon as something smaller, cheaper or with a bigger screen comes along. Few companies have stepped up to challenge the Eee PC’s neatly carved niche so far, but that’s now beginning to change
These are the first glimpses of the MSI Wind – it boasts a 10″ display, an Intel Shelton 08 processor that varies from 1.0 – 1.6GHz. 1GB RAM and 2.5″ HDD or SSD. Prices are apparently going to start from 299 Euros and head upwards to 699 Euros, which should see it compare well to Asus’ recently unveiled 399 Euros, 8.9″ model. The Wind might also have an edge in terms of its battery life, which is a reported 7 hours although it seems unlikely that this is set in stone at this early stage.
