Lambretta launches Quadrophenia bike

Just look at this absolutely gorgeous retro-chic Lambretta. Brought to you by Fisher Outdoor Leisure, the world’s first Lambretta Bicicletta (Li126) is modelled on the Lambretta driven by Jimmy in cult film Quadrophenia and will be launched to the public at the London Cycle Show 2009 at Earls Court, 8-11 October.

Every one of the 500 £599 limited edition models is individually numbered and comes with its own certificate of authenticity. Rather fittingly number 1 of this limited edition model is owned by the self-styled ‘modfather’ himself, Mr Paul Weller.

Comments Fisher Outdoor CEO Richard Allmark: “We are very excited to be launching the Li126 Lambretta Bicicletta. We are huge fans of Lambretta, and as such have been faithful in our efforts to create a bicycle with style and class, that is in keeping with the brand heritage.”

Though the brand is vintage, Lambretta claims the Li126 is a thoroughly modern bicycle incorporating the latest developments in bike technology and design to create a beautifully honed and high-performing ‘city cruiser’ bike. Further models in the Lambretta Bicicletta range will be announced in Spring 2010.

Mini Digital TV from IWOOT for under £100

New from I Want One of Those is a Digital TV and Multimedia Player for under £100.

OK it’s only got a teeny, tiny 3.5inch screen but for use out and about this seems great – no idea what picture quality is like yet. Thanks to a digital tuner you can watch all the Freeview channels, though you will need to hook the device to your TV aerial first to download all the available channels.

Using the SD card the gadget also doubles as a video or digital audio (MP3 player)

Gear 4's video buddy

New from Gear4 is the

Nano videobuddy.jpg

‘VideoBuddy’, a clever dongle for watching videos filmed on the new iPod nano on the big screen. Simply connect the dongle to your iPod nano dock and then link it up to the TV with the included RCA/phono cable for instant results.

Incorporating a new authentication chip from Apple that allows video (both recorded and downloaded), photos and movies to be played directly from the more recent iPod models. Older video connectivity solutions are not compatible with the newer iPod models for this reason.

How tech has become cool, says Superbrands

No surprises that the iPhone was voted coolest and most desirable brand in Britain, according to the CoolBrands annual survey announced yesterday. But what is surprising is just how far tech has come in terms of being seen as desirable.

Of the top 10 brands named in the list, all but one are from the world of tech including Blackberry, YouTube, Bang and Olufsen, Playstation, Nintendo as well as obviously Apple, the iPod and the iPhone. Aston Martin, last year’s number 1, slipped one place to number 2, while the next highest non-tech entries are, bizarrely, Tate Modern (12), Dom Perignon (13), Virgin Atlantic (14) and Ferrari (15).

Bad news for Facebook which dropped out the top 20 and Twitter which failed to make the top 20 but is listed in the top. Good news for the BBC iPlayer which is a new entry at Number 20.

AQA's sex survey reveals just how legless its users really are

I must admit I can’t think of a single reason why you would use a texting service like AQA 63336 – unless that is you are really, really shit-faced and fancy a giggle at the answer they come up with (though I think there are cheaper ways of having fun personally).

So to find out that people are texting in asking if eating a polo mint prevents you from getting pregnant or if eating a banana helps you maintain an erection doesn’t really surprise me. Apparently, according to the press release, AQA 63336 (no, I have no idea what the numbers stand for either, though I’m sure it’s significant), ‘researchers’ have found that half of the sex-related queries it receives come between 9pm and 2am. No shit, Sherlock. Honestly I would be worried for the state of the nation if they were during the 9am and 2pm unless the survey was carried out among students, that is.

Even more revelationary is that the with the most popular time to ask
questions about sex is 12.37am. And that 60% of these sex texts to AQA
63336 come from men – wow you don’t say. So you see, as I said pissed blokes.

Microsoft's secret 'pink phone' unveiled by Gizmodo

Microsoft pink phone.jpg

Over at Gizmodo there are pictures of what it claims are two of Microsoft’s ‘Pink’ phones. No that’s not the colour of the phone, it’s the secret code name. Well, not so secret anymore – but we wonder how long the pictures will remain there before someone at Microsoft asks them, and now us, to remove them.

The fact that Microsoft has been working on a phone to rival the iPhone has been widely reported for the last few months. The idea is that the handset would be based on the Zune and would have its own app store. How very original.

Pictured are two of Microsoft’s ‘pink’ phones, codenamed “Turtle” and “Pure”.
One of the pictured devices (The Turtle) resembles the chubby, ovoid, Palm Pre while the Pure – which looks more like an HTC device – comes with a keyboard and a decent-looking screen.

Vodafone 360 adds Facebook/Windows Live Messenger connectivity

From Vodafone comes a new suite of internet services for mobile phone and PC that will enable users to access communities, entertainment and personal favourites (music, games, photos and videos etc.) all in one place.

Similar to services already offered by other mobile phone operators, such as Orange’s Social Life package, Vodafone 360 works across a range of mobile phones, including the new, exclusive Vodafone 360 phones and syncs automatically with your PC.

At its heart, Vodafone 360 offers a personal address book – Vodafone People – which brings together all your contacts from the mobile phone, social networks and other internet accounts. At launch Vodafone 360 will work with Facebook, Windows Live Messager and Google Talk. It will also soon be compatible with Twitter, Hyves and studiVZ.

Two tailor-made Vodafone 360 mobile handsets, manufactured by Samsung, have been designed to give the best customer experience of the services including the unique 3D contacts display, driven by Vodafone’s ‘proximity algorithm’ which brings the most frequently contacted people closer to the front.

The Vodafone 360 H1 by Samsung boasts a 3.5inch multi-touch, high definition OLED screen, 16GB memory, WiFi, a maximum talk time of over 400 minutes (3G) and a 5 megapixel camera. It will be followed shortly by a second Samsung handset, offering customers a range of colours and price points.

At launch four Nokia Symbian smartphones will also come pre-loaded with Vodafone 360 and part or all of the service will be available to over one hundred popular phones via download.
