Review: ASUS Eee PC 4G is the little laptop that deserves to be huge
You gets what you pays for, right? Which is why if you want an ultraportable laptop with a decent battery life and wireless capabilities, you pay through the nose. Until now, anyway. The ASUS Eee PC is a small, light Linux-based laptop selling in the UK for £219, but with features you’d expect to see in something double its price.
The question is whether its small size means a too-cramped keyboard, whether it’s powerful enough to run all the applications you’d want, and whether its battery life is up to the job. Does it deliver? Read on for my verdict on the 4G model.
JFK assassination to be recreated in Second Life
I still think the Martians killed President Kennedy. It makes sense if you think about it: maybe they did possess magic bullets capable of zinging around right angles and defying the laws of physics. And if the shots came from space, that would explain why they couldn’t be traced. Really, it makes perfect sense. I’m writing a book about it. But in the meantime, conspiracy theorists wanting a new spin on the Kennedy assassination can now visit a virtual version of Dealey Plaza in Second Life.
HELLO! I'M ON THE NOISYPHONE! YES!
You have to read that headline in the voice of Dom Joly, obviously. Yes, the NOISYPHONE (those capitals are essential, given the subject) is a new home telephone capable of ringing at a whopping 43 decibels.
ZML is like AllofMP3, but for movies
Remember AllofMP3? It was the Russian website selling cut-price MP3 downloads, which was eventually shut down after lengthy protests from the music industry. It’s since respawned as several new startups, of course. Anyway, ZML isn’t one of them, since it doesn’t sell music. Instead, it applies AllofMP3’s formula to movies, making it Hollywood’s worst nightmare.
ASUS denies 10-inch Eee PC reports as OS X Leopard squeezes onto 7-inch model
I could rhapsodise for hours about the new ASUS Eee PC, and I will in my full review early next week. But suffice to say I’m sold on the pint-sized Linux laptop’s charms. So are plenty of other people, judging by the blogosphere buzz.
YouTube promises HD video streaming in next three months
Fed up with shoddy YouTube videos? Join the club. But according to co-founder Steve Chen, a dose of high-definition goodness is on the way. At least, that’s what he promised in his speech at the NewTeeVee conference in San Francisco yesterday.
Rumour: Amazon to unveil Kindle e-book reader next Monday
Okay, I’ve reported before on a predicted launch for Amazon’s Kindle e-book reader, and it didn’t happen in October as rumoured. So maybe take this with a pinch of salt, but Amazon is apparently now going to launch the device next Monday in New York. CNET News.com says it, blame them if it’s lies!
